The watch is made by First Moscow Watch Factory (1MChZ) in Moscow, USSR. This is one of the oldest watch factories in USSR/Russia. In 1949, the production of Shturmansky watches was started. This watch was made specifically for the Air Force and never went on public sale. In 1961, the first ever manned space flight took place. On a space flight, Yuri Gagarin took the Shturmansky watch with him, which demonstrated flawless operation in zero gravity. Thus, they became the first hours to be in space.
