My mother bought this handmade, hand painted, lacquered box while traveling in Russia in 1980. The scene is from a Russian fable about a Knight who performs great deeds of valor, saving his area from invaders. The artist's name is Toshev. The name of the fable is Ilya Muravetz.
It was made in the village of Kholui. It has been in a vitrine for decades, out of direct sunlight, in a conditioned, non smoking environment. It is in excellent condition. Please review all photos carefully as they are to be considered as part of its description.
