Palekh Soviet Agitlak Russian Lacquer box 1925 Ivan Markichev

  

Palekh lacquer box by Ivan Markichev, one of the seven artists who founded Old Painting Artel in 1924. This box is dated 1925(Please view pic). This box we believe is called "Reaping". It has an "alligator" finish to the top, very common in Palekh boxes from that time.

It is ornately banded on all four sides by a gold border, as pictured. A few tiny dings where the black lacquer has come off nothing much for a box that old.

One corner has a slight ding, again as pictured. Inside of box is in great condition for its age. 5 1/4 inches by 3 1/4 with a height of approx.
