"Mumu" - 1959 Soviet feature film based on the story of the same name by Ivan Sergeevich Turgenev. The lady took the deaf-mute peasant Gerasim with her to Moscow as a janitor. Since childhood, he was accustomed to working in the field and greatly missed the village, with difficulty getting used to urban life.

The washerwoman Tatyana looked at him. But the lady took it into her head to pass the girl off to the drunkard shoemaker Kapiton. Although Kapiton was afraid of Gerasim's fists, it is even more dangerous to argue with the old woman.

Then the lord's servants decided to make Gerasim dislike Tatyana himself. They persuaded the girl to pretend to be intoxicated, and Gerasim really did not like drunks. And Tatyana drove off with her husband to a distant village.

And if not for the dog that he saved from the river, his life would have been hopeless. At first she was weak, but little by little she recovered and turned into a very fine dog. She became very attached to Gerasim, and he loved her without memory.

But one day Mumu disturbed the rest of the lady with her barking, and the old woman ordered the dog to be thrown out of the yard. With pain in his heart, Gerasim led his only friend from the courtyard. I went to the tavern, fed Mumu for the last time. He went to the river, took a boat and set sail from the shore. This is the middle of the river.

Gerasim stopped rowing, affectionately stroked the dog, picked up a brick with a rope, and only the waves went on the water... And at night Gerasim fled from the manor house. He hurried without looking back to his village, to his homeland.. He was born in 1915 in Moscow into a family of musicians. His father, Karaim Iosif Savelyevich Shamash, a violinist, played at the Evpatoria Theater.

Mother - Maria Shamash, pianist. As a child he showed interest in drawing. Later, for three years, he took painting and drawing lessons from the famous artist RR Falk. After the beginning of the Great Patriotic War he was mobilized.

He served in the art workshop of the Red Army House. Title - foreman, position - artist. He worked on the design of visual agitation for parts of the front in the air defense forces, in particular, on the illustrations to the book "Memoir of Moscow", intended for the air defense units of the capital. From 1946 he worked as a poster artist in the Reklamfilm workshop.

Author of about 500 movie posters, including films by A. Heifitz ("Lady with a Dog"), M. Bondarchuk ("War and Peace") , etc. Shamash's works were exhibited at all-Union and international exhibitions. At the same time he was a journalist.
