This is a Rare Soviet Wrist Watch VOSTOK 22 Jewels. It was made at "Chistopol Watch Factory" of USSR Department of Defense in the late 50's, and considered by many watch experts as one of the Best Russian wristwatch ever made.

Unfortunately, the production of these Fine watches lasted only for about Five years, and it was discontinued due to the High production cost and High retail price (almost 50% of the average monthly salary). The creation of this outstanding chronometer was clearly inspired by the Legendary ZENITH Chronometer Cal. 135 which was launched by LeLocle, Switzerland in 1948, and is highly valued nowadays by the watch collectors and watch enthusiasts worldwide.

If you are familiar with ZENITH Cal. 135, You will notice some striking similarities: very large screw balance wheel, fine timing regulation mechanism, plates layout, large and powerful mainspring, oversize jewels, etc.

In 1968 these watches received Big Gold Medal on Leipzig Fair. This Watch is a copy of Zenith cal. The Soviet copy has been Obtained even Better of its original. The Mechanical 22 Ruby Jewels Precision Movement USSR Wristwatches "VOSTOK". It is undoubtedly the best Soviet Wristwatches ever made. The Soviet Movement retained all of the key features and characteristics of the Zenith cal. Nevertheless the Soviet watchmakers sought to improve the Swiss design, by adding 3 Additional Jewels, to arrive at the current 22-Jewel Movement. The 22-Jewel Movement used exclusively for the "Vostok Precision" line & the "Volna" (Wave) series of watches. To date, these were the ONLY Chronometer-capable mechanical watch movements ever manufactured in the Soviet Union and is highly valued nowadays by the watch collectors and watch enthusiasts. The Nickel-plated case with screwed Stainless Steel back lid, the back lid with cyrillic inscriptions: Shock-proof, Dustproof, Moitsure-proof. Special done synthetic crystal glass for face of this unique wristwatch. The Unique Soviet High - grade Mechanical Movement with 22 Ruby Jewels, Caliber 2809, shock-resistant balance, precision manual wind movement. The engraving on Train Bridge: 22 Jewels, Logo of factory, also engraving on Ratchet Wheel: SOVIET STARS as the Quality Symbol of Watch. The Vintage Case of the watch is made of Nickel-plated brass Stainless Steel Back and has a Waterproof Sealing Screw-in Ring 22 Jewels Spiral of Balance-wheel is made of Special Alloy with Minimum Temperature Coefficient Dust-moisture-proof Shock-resistant Gold Hour and Minute Hands. Indirectly driven minute and second as well as the escape-wheel bearing underneath the balance allow a big balance (design similar to the Zenith 135). The movements for Wostok watches had to pass tests similar to those of the COSC. Movements which didn't pass the test, were used for the cheaper brand Almaz.
