This mechanical wind-up clock was built for the Soviet Navy, and features rugged construction with a solid metal case, thick glass crystal, and a bold cream-colored dial marked with a red star, anchor emblem, and the iconic "???????????? This is the real deal, not a reproduction. Weighing in at 6.74 pounds, this timepiece is built like a tank - because it had to be. These clocks were used aboard Soviet naval vessels, including submarines, and were designed to be highly legible, extremely durable, and long-lasting. Back Cover & Casting Marks Material & Machining: The interior casting texture and concentric lathe marks in the center are completely consistent with cold war-era Soviet machining and finishing. That greenish-gray oxidation and patina suggests aged, unfinished brass or bronze, common in these naval clocks for durability and corrosion resistance. Cast-In Numbering: The raised marking inside looks like a casting or mold number, not a serial number. These often indicate a mold ID or batch, not a unique clock number. The marking appears to say "1104" (or something similar), and it's cast into the metal - again, typical of original Soviet military items.
