USSR State Prize MedalBadge, 3. Stamped serial number to the reverse. Includes original complete suspension device. Perfectly preserved old ribbon is probably original to the medal. The connecting link is original and hasn't been cut.

Original screw plate is included. Very low SN, almost for sure issued as a replacement to recipients of the Stalin Prize, 3rd cl. (as part of the Khrushchev's"de-Stalinization" campaign). When Stalin Prizewas conceived in 1939 to celebrate Stalin's 60th birthday, it was supposed to be a purely monetary reward paid for by the proceeds from published works of Stalin.

The first series of awards were bestowed in 1941 for achievements of all the previous years starting from 1935, where as in the following years they were given only for the results attained in the year preceding the award e. The 1942 prize was for achievements of 1941 etc. The medal of aStalin Prize winner came up only after the war, in late 1945, and starting from1946 it was retroactively issued to the Prize winners of the previous years.
